Maine Wedding Jewelers

Add sparkle to your happy day.

If you have yet to select your wedding jewelry, consider Maine as your jewelry shopping destination spot. Professional jewelers as well as artisans and antique dealers are in abundance in Maine's many quaint towns. With Maine's variety, that perfect deal may be just around the corner.

The Search for the Perfect Jewelry

When shopping for your wedding jewelry, it's best to have a few ideas in mind first. How do you envision your wedding jewelry? Is it sophisticated? Traditional? Woodsy and natural? Your preferences will guide you to the right stores. For example, if you love the retro look or have a penchant for pieces with a history, an antiques store or even an estate sale may be good places to look.

Maine is a big state, (the largest in New England, in fact) so narrow your search by town or geographical area. Then look within that area for the type of jewelry shop that will suit your needs. Try Portland or Bangor for a selection of stores; look up jewelry shops in advance and have a route planned.

Estate Jewelry and Antiques

If you love antiques, Maine is the perfect shopping locale for you. Antique jewelry can add a sophistication and style to your wedding wear that's unparalleled. But be sure you match the jewelry style and coloring to your wedding gown. A 1920s or 1930s dangling costume jewelry necklace can be gorgeous, but only if you're wearing an open-top (boat, scooped or V-cut) gown. The same goes for earrings; if you're planning on wearing your hair down or if your veil is voluminous and contains pearls or other items that can "catch," try for smaller and simpler earrings rather than dangles.

You can find lists of antique jewelry or estate dealers in Maine through the local newspaper, in the phone book or online. And don't forget antique festivals, where you can often catch a rare find. Look at Maine Antiques Online or other searchable websites for listings.

Jewelry Shops

Of course, modern jewelry shops offer unique items, too. They also generally carry the jewelry we traditionally associate with weddings, such as pearl necklaces and diamond stud or pearl earrings.

Ask to see not only current selections but photos of pieces that are due to come into the shop in the near future. That way, you can get a jump on the very latest wedding jewelry trends. And don't be afraid to ask about a specific style or designer if you don't see it in the showcase; often, jewelry shops are able and willing to specialty order pieces for you.

Local Artisans

With a scenic atmosphere conducive to creativity, Maine attracts a number of artisans, including jewelry makers. Scan the booths at your local Maine crafts fair; you may find an absolute gem (literally). Also be sure to ask a favorite artisan whether he or she can specialty create jewelry for your wedding. Most artists are flattered by and thrilled with such a request.

Maine offers an array of resources for your wedding jewelry. Take advantage of all this state has to offer, and walk down the aisle in style.
