Maine Wedding Music

Dance the night away to the best music Maine has to offer.

Wedding music can be slow and romantic, upbeat and current or a collection of the bride and groom's very favorite oldies. Often it's all three, with specialty tunes (such as ethnic selections) thrown in for added flavor. Your choice of wedding disc jockeys, bands and soloists is waiting for you in the wedding-welcome state of Maine. Start now on your search for the perfect Maine wedding music.

Disc Jockeys

DJs are a popular choice due to the fact that the music is a flawless recording. DJs also typically have a good mix of music from various time periods and genres. You can also ask your Maine wedding DJ to bring along specific recordings that have special meaning for you and your groom.

A DJ should also have an engaging and enthusiastic personality. See if you can arrange to observe your DJ in action before hiring him/her. Watch the crowd's reaction to the DJ's commentary between discs. Does he or she get wallflowers out onto the floor? Is he aware of the correct order for certain songs (such as the "first dance" opening sequence)? DJs are, for all intents and purposes, "on stage" for the duration of an event, yet should not overwhelm the guests or make shy guests feel too singled out. If you're not sure of a particular DJ, continue your search; luckily for you, Maine has plenty of professional "spinners," familiar with manning all types of weddings.

Wedding Bands

Live performance bands add real flavor to a wedding reception. Typically, wedding bands will have a range of music styles that are suitable for receptions, but they may have less of a range than the standard DJ's hundreds of CDs can provide. If you decide on a live band, be sure to ask what their basic style is. You want to find a good fit with your own and with that of your groom.

You can't beat a live band's energy and ability to draw the attention of the room -- provided it's the right band. Bands are an excellent choice; just be sure to listen to a good sampling of different types of music they are able to play, and ask for a playlist. Most wedding bands should be able to provide you with a basic list of the songs that are requested frequently at wedding receptions. If you have a particular song or group of songs you just can't do without on your reception night, ask the band if they've ever played the piece. Listen to the group's rendition and see whether it jibes with your vision of how the song should sound.

Soloists

Another option is the soloist performer. You can find solo pianists (a very classy and on-trend pick), solo vocalists or even solo violinists. The solo player, if he or she is particularly talented, can be an exquisite choice for your wedding reception. Check the Yellow Pages, online or with your wedding coordinator if you have one for Maine soloists. As with DJs and bands, you will want to sit and listen to the artist play or sing. Be polite, listen and then go home to think about it. It's a big decision -- but by keeping your own personality in mind, you truly can find Maine wedding music that suits your dreams to a tee!
