Massachusetts Wedding Cake Questions
You may know you love chocolate or you may know that you must have tiramisu filling, but you still have a few questions to consider before deciding on your cake:Location/Climate: If you are holding your reception indoors, in a climate-controlled room, you will have unlimited options for your cake. But if you are having an outdoor reception, especially in the heat, certain types of cakes or fillings may be less practical. Talk to your baker about the right environment for your cake -- or the right cake for your environment.
Cake/Icing Flavors: Perhaps you crave red velvet, vanilla, banana or chocolate, but if you are having a tiered wedding cake, you might want to consider different flavors so that many different guests will find a favorite. And although traditional wedding icing is white, there are no limits. Cakes can match your color scheme, your seasonal motif or even your dress.
Cake Size: Cake size will be determined by your guest head count as well as your budget. A traditional wedding cake is a three-tiered round cake. The actual tiers may be placed one on top of another or displayed with columns. Shapes can also vary to resemble just about anything you can think of. Your baker should be open to discussing custom and specialty work.
Baker: One of the best ways to find a great baker is through recommendations. Both friends and local Massachusetts clubs may have priceless advice and experiences to share. Bakers should share cake photographs as well as sample tastes for you.
Ask The Baker
As you interview bakers, remember to ask the following questions:- How many years have they been in business?
- Can they provide you with a list of previous wedding customers?
- Will they show you photos and provide sample tastes?
- Will you receive a previously frozen cake or will it be fresh?
- What is their signature or specialty cake?
